Communication with the Board of Education

The Ankeny Board of Education values your opinion and input.  There are several ways to communicate with your school board members.

Individual Communication

Contact information for individual board members is listed on the Meet the School Board page of this Web site.  Board members generally include mail, e-mail and phone information. You can also e-mail the school board as a whole.

Board Meeting Communication

You can also communicate with the board at their public meetings.  There are two avenues available to you as outlined in board policy 213.00, Public Participation in Board Meetings:
  1. Come to a board meeting and fill in a communication card.  Cards will be collected prior to the meeting and you will be given an opportunity speak to the board at a pre-determined point in the agenda.
Please note: Due to Iowa Open Meetings Law, the board will not be able to interact with you or address you because your speaking was not published in the agenda 24 hours prior to the meeting.  However, this can be alleviated by using method #2.
  1. Place your topic on the board agenda in advance and then address the board.  This satisfies Open Meetings Laws and allows the board to speak with you further about your topic.  Individuals or groups who wish to place an item on the agenda should write or call the Superintendent of Schools:
Dr. Matthew Wendt
Ankeny Community School District
P.O. Box 189
Ankeny, Iowa 50021
515-965-9600
superintendent@ankenyschools.org

To be included on a Monday night agenda, requests must reach the Superintendent by noon on the previous Friday. Requests should include:
  • Name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Organization represented
  • Purpose of the presentation
  • Any other pertinent background information.
Board work sessions generally begin at 5:00 and run until 6:00, when there is a brief recess.  The board then reconvenes and continues with the remainder of the business meeting.  The prepared agenda generally proceeds as follows:
