The Ankeny Community School District is located in Polk County, Iowa, in the heart of the State of Iowa. Six miles from the capitol city of Des Moines, the district:

Academics
Ankeny Community Schools enjoy an outstanding reputation in the state and the Mid-west for an exemplary and balanced curricular and co-curricular program designed to meet the needs of all students. Some of the accomplishments Ankeny students achieved in 2008-2009 were:

  • 97.4% graduation rate (#1 among the ten largest districts in Iowa) 
  • 0.29% dropout rate in grades 7-12 (Lowest rate among the ten largest districts in Iowa)
  • 95.94% average daily attendance rate
  • 83% of those taking the ACT scored 20 or higher (2008-2009) 
  • 23.8 average composite score on the ACT.  State average is 22.4. National average is 21.1. (July, 2009) 
  • 35 seniors scored 30 or higher on the ACT (2008-2009)
  • 150 students took 5 or more AP/Honors classes (up from 129 in 2007-2008)
  • 30th on the Belin and Blank Iowa AP Index with 249 AP exams among 457 graduates 
  • 9,800 DMACC credits were earned by students
  • 77% of the graduating class accepted to a college
  • 88% of 11th graders proficient in both literacy and math, according to the ITED

Athletics and Activities
Ankeny Community Schools have a rich heritage of excellence in athletics, arts and activities.  We field numerous competitive teams and are often in the running for conference and state championships - both in team and individual events.

  • Six Central Iowa Metro League (CIML) Central Conference Championships – football, girls basketball, boys tennis, girls soccer, boys soccer, girls golf

  • Twenty-five individuals or groups received a Division I Rating in speech
