Ankeny Seniors and Teachers Honored at 13th Annual Governor's Scholar Recognition Ceremony

U.S. News and World Report Ranks Ankeny Among the State and Nation's Best High Schools
The Ankeny Community School District has high school achievement data that is among the best in Iowa and the country, according to U.S. News and World Report’s 2015 analysis of high schools across America. Ankeny High School received a silver medal, placing the school in the top 12 percent of high schools in the nation and top five percent in Iowa. Ankeny High School was one of only three metro-area schools listed in Iowa's top 15. Read more about the U.S. News recognition here.
Program to Collect School Supplies for Students in Need
Ankeny Community Education and Project Fresh Start are gearing up to continue their decade-long tradition of providing school supplies and backpacks to students in need in the Ankeny community. They are currently collecting cash donations and school supplies for their Days of Giving
and need your help.

New 'Child Work Permit' Process
In the past, local school officials have issued Iowa Child Labor Work permits. Effective June 1, school administrators will no longer be issuing Work Permits.
Youth, parents and employers will now complete a simplified form. The form and instructions are available on the Division of Labor website at www.iowaworkforce.org/labor/childlabor.htm

Any Work Permit applications that have already been submitted to the school will continue to be processed.
Two Ankeny Students Place First in Optimist Oratorical Contest
Two Ankeny Centennial High School students received top honors in the Iowa Optimist Oratorical Contest. Senior Brea Young won first place in the girls' division and senior Anthony DeFino won first place in the boys' division in the district competition on May 9 in Des Moines. Students learn about language and culture through French exchange -
Twenty Ankeny high school students from AHS and ACHS participated in a French Exchange trip this past March, and then played host to French students in Ankeny in April. These trips are an opportunity for cultural and linguistic exchange with the Lycée Européen, a school in Villers-Cotterets, France. The exchange is designed to improve and apply students’ French language skills in the real world, and also provides many historical and cultural experiences to expand their global knowledge. 55 AHS and ACHS Student-Athletes Sign Letters of Intent
Fifty-five Ankeny High School and Ankeny Centennial High School student-athletes were honored with National Letter of Intent Signing Day ceremonies at ACHS and AHS on May 6. The students were joined by family, friends and coaches as they were recognized for having been offered collegiate athletic scholarships or preferred walk-on status.

Wichman named Prairie Ridge Middle School Principal
Pending approval by the Ankeny Board of Education on May 18, the Ankeny Community School District is pleased to announce Mr. Jim Wichman as the new principal for Prairie Ridge Middle School. Mr. Wichman is currently a middle school principal for Central-Clinton Community School District in DeWitt, Iowa. Read more about Mr. Wichman
Ankeny Schools Receives Two Awards for Financial Reporting
The Ankeny Community School District has received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association, and a Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International. The district’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2014, qualified for both awards, and included the meticulous work completed by many district departments throughout the school year.

Northview and Southview 9th Graders Receive Presidential Award for Academic Excellence
Northview and Southview Middle Schools awarded ninth-grade students with the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence. Northview held a ceremony for their award winners on April 22, Southview held a similar ceremony on April 23. Click here to read more about Ankeny's Presidential Award Winners.
22 Ankeny Centennial Students Achieve National and State Recognition on National Spanish Exam
Twenty-two Ankeny Centennial Spanish students earned national and state recognition for their outstanding performance on the 2015 National Spanish Exam administered this spring. Rick Nelson to be named AHS head football coach -
Pending approval by the Ankeny Board of Education on May 4, Mr. Rick Nelson will be named as the new varsity head football coach for Ankeny High School (AHS). Nelson is currently the offensive line coach for the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) Panthers football team in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Ankeny Schools selected Nelson from a strong pool of nearly 20 outstanding candidates. Read more about the new AHS football coach here.

Ankeny Community Schools is now holding a district inventory surplus sale online, including portable classrooms, vehicles and weight equipment. The district utilizes K-Bid, an online auction service to sell surplus items. Our auctions are now OPEN and closes May 17, May 21 and May 27. Before And After-School Summer Adventures Camp Registration Now Open!
A summer full of sizzling fun is planned for students who have completed
grades K-5 at the Before and After-School Program’s Summer Adventures Camp. There is something for everyone in this summer camp that’s jam-packed with hands-on enrichment fun! Select the camps you want, don’t pay for those you don't. Campers may register for only one or two weeks, or the entire summer. Ankeny Community Education is partnering with Camp Invention to host the second annual summer camp at Ashland Ridge Elementary! Some of the activities your child will experience include, building freestyle racing carts, creating a prototype video game with characters, and inventing machines. Did you go last year?
